Even when you’re isolating at home, you can still look stylish! I’ve had my fair share of days in T-shirts and sweatpants lately, but I’ve dressed as I “normally” would most of the time. Though I’m not a fashion-only blogger I know what pairs nicely together, and love to have fun with versatile styles, prints, and patterns year-round. While isolating at home, I’ve realized I have a capsule wardrobe of pieces I regularly wear, regardless of the season—and that includes during quarantine. I thought I’d share my ideas for how to dress right now with a versatile wardrobe of brands I love, and how I integrate that with my daily routine. The best part is that most of my pieces come from affordable brands, and you probably have them in your closet already!
Every day, I start my mornings with a shower to wake up. Coffee does the trick for most people, but a shower (especially if it’s cold) alerts me to the start of a new day. Showers also makes me feel super refreshed before I’ve tackled anything on my to-do list! I care a lot about being clean, especially during this pandemic, so I don’t know what I’d do without them.
I’ve begun doing hour-long home workouts, now that Barry’s Clarendon location is closed. I usually do a virtual Sensazao dance class over Zoom, or Facebook Live strength training classes from Body by Ginny throughout the week. Comfort is essential when exercising, and I’ve grown partial to Athleta pieces as my go-to workout clothes. Athleta’s clothing is super lightweight, and never makes me feel restricted or self-conscious like some other exercise-only brands. I especially love their joggers, bras and capri leggings for workouts! These come in so many versatile colors so I can mix and match pieces, which makes choosing exercise clothes a little easier, but a lot of fun.
For at least half the day, I (like most of you parents out there!) have been homeschooling my kids. I feel a responsibility to “dress up” when I’m doing this, not just for me, but for Ella and Logan, too. I feel like it instills regularity in the household, and a sense of responsibility for them to do their best in class—and me to do my best when teaching. I don’t have to wear a full face of makeup and heels for this (major props to the moms that are), so I either wear a nice dress or a cute top with jeans. I especially love Abercrombie & Fitch for these kinds of outfits, and it was already one of my favorite go-to brands! Abercrombie makes great pieces for a contemporary, casual look. I’ll usually wear their jeans and tops when I’m at home or running errands, and their dresses are great for traveling or casual events. Their jeans are super comfortable, and after I throw on a printed blouse or graphic tee with them I’m ready to teach! I like to add simple jewelry and some sandals if I feel like “dressing up,” but outside of that I usually keep things simple.
However, there are some days where it’s too much effort to put a whole outfit together—or I just need something that’s free-flowing, comfy, and good for hiking or playing with the kids (i.e. not jeans!). Vici Dolls makes great separates that I’ve been returning to constantly during quarantine. Their T-shirt dresses, sweaters and printed tees are great for an easy, simple look this time of year! When I throw one of those on with their joggers, it makes an instant outfit. If I feel like throwing on an oversized T-shirt and sweatpants, I’ll usually default to these kinds of pieces for an equally comfortable, but more put-together, look.
While doing all of this, I’m still producing content for my social media and blog! I try to always have a causal-chic or casual outfit when I’m recording videos and taking photos (which you’ll see more of soon). Though my go-to outfits are usually a cool graphic tee or printed top with slim joggers or jeans, I’ll put on a cute dress when I’m doing an Instagram Live—or just want to feel a little more dolled up! After all, there’s just something about putting on clothes you like and look good that can totally elevate your mood. Now more than ever, that’s something I’m taking to heart and trying to do every day.
